The Insomniac Coder

This idiot spends $70,000 on a bachelor’s degree and graduates with a 2.7 GPA. She then decides, after three months of failing to secure a job, to sue her former school for the full $70,000 tuition plus $2000 for her suffering during the three-month long job search.

Why? Because she claims that the job placement office at her school gives preference to 4.0 GPA students.

Like we say here in Virginia, “tough shit.”

Is a bachelor’s degree in business administration really worth $70,000 in tuition? What are the entry level salary expectations for a fresh graduate from such a course? Something tells me these people are not being offered anywhere close to $70,000 on the first year. I googled it a bit and found that the median for all business/financial operations occupations is less than $65,000. If that’s the median, then the entry level is a hell of a lot lower.

Here’s a suggestion: take that bachelor’s degree and walk into the closes US Armed Forces Recruiting Station, then ask about officer procurement programs. That bachelor’s degree is immediately worth a butter bar, that means Second Lieutenant in the Army, Marines or Air Force, or Ensign in the Navy. The minimum service obligation is probably going to be 8 years, of which probably no less than 2 will be required to be active duty. Pick a service, do your 8 years and see how the job market is then. By then you’ll have 8 years of relevant experience, and you’ll be a veteran. They’ll probably even help you repay some of your school debt.
