Weak passwords
If you have ANY password that is a word that can be looked up in a dictionary, you need to change your password right now. Don’t start making up excuses about how dumb you are or how bad your memory is, if you prize your accounts, you need to get these passwords changed ASAP.
A friend of mine lost a 3+ year old Google account. All of her emails were there, and most of her work was in Google...

It is now possible to watch most of your Comcast subscriptions’s allowed On Demand content from your PC. To do this, simply go to http://www.fancast.com/ , sign in as a Comcast user and download an Adobe AIR applet.
You are allowed three computers per Comcast account.
If you screw this up, good luck to you because Comcast has yet to train their first tier tech support checklist readers...

Slashdot Ask Slashdot Story | How To Teach a... →
If you have to ask the question, then you don’t know enough about programming to be teaching anyone, even less a 12-year old. This is reinforced by how later he asks about Pascal, which means he doesn’t know Jack Shit about programming.
I honestly can’t figure out why the people that green light questions for Slashdot are nowhere on par with the technical proficiency of their...
does anyone know how to clean a computer screen?
aseriesofserendipities:
mine is all gross and fingerprinty and smudgy and it’s hard to read out in the sun :\
Either glass cleaner or just water on a paper towel, don’t apply too much force, the towel should be able to pick up most of the grime. Make sure none of the liquid seeps into the bottom edge of the screen or you’ll risk messing with the electronics.

Another thing is when a...

Easy: bring in the folks responsible for Astronomy Picture of the Day. Everything they write is fascinating and it is done in a very engaging and entertaining way.
Focus a Camera - Wired How-To Wiki →
This article is pretty useless, let me tell you why:
Almost every digital camera over $100 has a combination of auto focus and automated exposure that will outsmart almost every casual photographer. Once you cross the $150 or so mark, these mechanisms are good enough to challenge amateur photographers that insist on doing everything manually. At the $200 or so level, the damn things are just...

HDTV home video exports in Windows 7
Yesterday I hit an interesting milestone: first time I have imported, edited and exported a home movie in 720p in Windows 7. I’ve done this dozens of times in OSX of course, so I was worried about how much painful the experience would be by using the movie maker provided as an optional free download for the OS.
Well, it wasn’t. The movie maker works like a stripped down iMovie and...
