The good news is that yes, it worked.
The bad news is that they stated that it was a VMWare image. It isn’t. It is a VMWare disk image. You need the full version of VMWare in order to use this, or you need to use Sun’s free VM, VirtualBox.
It’s not a big deal, and this is slashdot so it is not like they have fact checkers in place.

You can’t run ANYTHING on an Xbox 360 unless it is signed by Microsoft. Period. You can’t write your own games to run them unless you use Microsoft’s official tools. You can play DVDs and media files within limites.

If you don’t like the conditions that Microsoft forces on you for using the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live platforms, then you are free to not buy them. Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo are within their right to enforce a contract.
