Ford announces new self-parking technology →
The American Auto industry is crumbling under its own weight, and on the first steps of getting nationalized or even worse, shut down. And the best we can do is to make luxury cars that can park themselves? Shouldn’t we be building cars that are cheaper to buy and keep running? Is it such a hassle to learn how to park a car that we are willing to spend a lot of money to make it go away?

A short reminder that the new W.E.B. Griffin book comes out today in both hardcover and Kindle editions. BTW, I still can’t get over how fast these things get delivered to the Kindle. I turned on the Kindle, clicked on the web page icon to have the free preview delivered, then started typing this entry. I just looked over to the Kindle and the free sample is already in the device.

Is Netflix Poised To Dominate Broadband Video? -... →
Netflix is on to something. Since the Xbox 360 fall update, which includes a HD-capable Netflix viewer, we are watching less and less cable television. It is getting to the point that we’re about to get a Blu-ray player, upgrade our Netflix subscription to Blu-ray and downgrade our Comcrap for the same amount of money. Why pay Comcrap for things we are not using? The Netflix viewer on the...

Area Man Looking For Whatever The Hell Is Beeping →
This happened to me once with a Teletubbies toy. PJ hid it under my bed while I was asleep. It was almost out of batteries, so the music was very faint, but still loud enough that I could barely hear the music over the drone of the fan in my room. After convincing myself that yes, I was really hearing the Teletubbies theme song, I had to crawl around the room for a good half hour before I decided...

Morey the Sled Dog - iReport.com We were arguing that the video was fake or not. It can’t be a fake, just look at the dog’s face: you can’t fake that look of dumb + happy + amused.

Gran Torino is probably one of his best movies, I really enjoyed it. A funny thing to say, since the damn thing doesn’t come out until January 9 but trust me, it rocked.

Text Messaging: Nice Profit Margin You've Got... →
What’s with the uproar about SMS charges? Last time I checked we still lived in a capitalist democracy, so private companies are entitled to make money when providing a service. We are not talking about a fundamental utility, like water or electric power. We can’t bitch that it is immoral for a telco carrier to charge 15 cents for something that costs them less than a cent to handle,...

Sikh Signs For Package, UPS Driver Enters His Name... →
That reminds me of a scene on the first season of Sleeper Cell, where a Sikh man gets picked on by a few dumbasses, they even called him “muslim.” Darwin, after kicking their asses, explained to them that SIkhs and Muslims were so far apart than mistaking one for the other would be as bad as (this was L.A.) mistaking a Blood for a Crip.

This is one hell of a deal, Apple refurbished gear is covered by the exact warranty as the original items, and the item also qualifies for the same Apple Care warranty. I have bought refurbished Macs in the past and for all Apple cares they see it as if it is a brand new item.

Comcast Facing Lawsuit Over Set-Top Box Rentals →
They should sue them for illegal bundling too. Bundling is when you are forced to purchase something that you don’t want in order to get the desired item. In my case, in order for me to use Comcast HDTV I am forced to use their PVR, they will not rent me a non-PVR HDTV cable box. The idea here is that by forcing me to get the PVR, on top of charging me the HDTV rental fee, they also charge...

Remember: You Don't Need To Buy Expensive Cables... →
I had a long discussion about this just after I wrote my previous rant on HDTV. Those HDMI cables are digital, as long as they are built to the standard, they all work the same. There is no need for you to spend more than $5 per foot for a finished HDMI cable. That means that you should not have to pay $15 for a 3 feet cable. Monster sells these cables for a hell of a lot more money and IT MAKES...

So you just got an Apple TV -- now what? →
I would like to add up the following: A new Apple remote control is $20-$29 depending on where you shop for it. It is tiny, about the size of a stick of gum, and it is very easy to misplace it. The remote app for iPhone is worthless because your iphone has to be on the same subnet as the AppleTV. The solution? Go to your closest Target, and in the universal remotes section there’s always...

Microsoft Extends XP To May 2009 For OEMs →
When you owe the bank one million dollars, you have a problem. When you owe the bank 100 million dollars, the bank is the one that has a problem. This is not Microsoft being nice to OEMs. No sir, this is the whole OEM community demanding from Microsoft that they stop screwing around and let them keep purchasing XP for their customers instead of forcing them to use Vista. This is nothing more...

Tell A Friend: You WILL NOT Need Cable After The... →
I am starting to get irritated by people that are preying on the less technically savy by trying to convince them that after the digital TV switch they can only watch TV if they have a HDTV set and they subscribe to either digital cable or digital satellite TV service. Lies. The digital TV switch is simple: 1. If you are currently subscribed to cable or satellite, you do nothing, they will make...

Australia To Block BitTorrent →
I hope these people understand that by blocking Bit Torrent traffic, all they are going to achieve is to motivate the right (wrong?) people into accelerating whatever projects are currently in the works that can mask that or any other kind of traffic. The obvious end result is somebody is going to either improve Bit Torrent, or come up with a substitute that is invulnerable. It also means...
